Understanding the competency
Responsibility means accepting ownership of decisions, actions, omissions, and their consequences. The Project Management Institute places responsibility alongside respect, fairness, and honesty in its professional ethics guidance (Project Management Institute, n.d.). Responsibility therefore includes how work is undertaken as well as whether it is delivered. Clear commitments make it possible to identify what someone has agreed to do and to recognize when a response or correction is needed. For leaders, accountability connects authority with an obligation to explain decisions and address their effects.
Connection to my professional work
My work at Jai’s Archive includes defining project scope, revision terms, schedules, and delivery expectations across paid engagements. At Media4U, I coordinate handoffs across production, review, editing, and client delivery. These responsibilities are documented in my résumé. On Golfland Sunsplash, I created a scope of work and wrote out the deliverables. Those actions made the work to be delivered explicit and provide a concrete starting point for examining responsibility in my practice.
Evidence and further reflection
The Golfland Sunsplash project provides an example of the work produced. To demonstrate responsibility more fully, the final artifact and reflection need to show a particular commitment, my actions in meeting or correcting it, and what I learned. A gallery or résumé does not, by itself, establish how a difficult accountability decision was handled. The personal account must supply that context.
