Understanding the frame

The human resource frame examines the relationship between people and organizations. It emphasizes people’s needs, capacities, and participation rather than treating them only as positions in a chart. Bolman and Deal connect this perspective with workplace motivation and the fit between people and organizational practices (2017). This lens concerns the people throughout an organization, not only its human resources department.

Applying the lens

A human resources analysis considers what the people in a situation need to contribute effectively. Relevant evidence may include training, workload, communication, support, and opportunities to use their skills. An explanation should distinguish observed behavior from assumptions about someone’s motivation or feelings. An alternative course of action should explain how changes in support or working relationships could address the situation.

Personal case analysis

The completed Human Resource Frame worksheet and my case-specific reflection must be added here. The final section needs my selected situation, an evidence-based account of how people influenced it, an alternative course of action, and what I would or would not change. This overview does not stand in for that personal analysis or the peer-review process.
